Conflict Resolution Workshop: Teaching Tough History to Children

Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at 3:50 PM until 5:00 PMEastern Daylight Time UTC -04:00

States and school districts across the country have attempted to ban the teaching of histories related to some of America's most troubling past, ostensibly for fear of loss of patriotism. But what are the risks of teaching only of our nation's triumphs while ignoring our tragedies? If we fail to learn lessons from the past, how can we fulfill the promise of our future?

This workshop will help teachers address some of these questions, while exploring the most effective ways for teaching tough history to our students.  Professor Jonathan Golden --director of Drew University's Center on Religion, Culture & Conflict and convenor of the Conflict Resolution Graduate Program-- will lead the discussion.
