The psychological thriller has enthralled readers for decades with writing techniques that manipulate audiences’ moods making them feel anticipation, uncertainty, surprise, even terror. Beneath these visceral reactions, however, are expectations that derive from stereotypes and presumptions that define the society we live in and our relationship to it in terms of gender, social class, and historical context. This course examines these issues as seen in the writings of Patricia Highsmith (The Talented Mr. Ripley), Graham Greene (The Third Man), William Goldman (Marathon Man), William Peter Blatty (The Exorcist), Erich Maria Remarque (All Quiet on The Western Front), and other distinguished authors.

Don't forget to attend our Caspersen School of Graduate Studies Virtual Open House on October 26 from 5-6 PM Eastern Time.

Registration is no longer available because the registration deadline has passed.
